Curriculum
Three years, one film at the end.
Each year builds on the one before, and each ends with work you can show.
Year one: foundations
Visual storytelling, camera and lighting, location sound, editing basics and a survey of film and television history. Short exercises every fortnight, screened and discussed in class.
Year two: craft
Directing, cinematography, screenwriting, production design and documentary practice. Students work in crews and rotate roles, so everyone has directed and everyone has edited.
Year three: production
A major production, from script to final cut, supported by a supervisor. The year closes with a public screening and a portfolio review.
Assessment
How the work is judged.
Practical work and written work are assessed separately, and both are published in advance.
Practical exercises are assessed by a panel of two faculty members, against criteria that are given to students before the exercise begins. Written work is assessed against the same published rubric each semester.
The academic calendar on the notices page lists every assessment date for the session. A date is not changed without a dated circular.
Where it leads
What graduates go on to do.
The kinds of work, and where the figures are kept.
Graduates work in production, editing and post-production, in content for digital platforms, in advertising and communication, and in further study. The programme does not promise a role. It promises a portfolio and a clear record of what each student made.
Placement figures for this programme are reported by the Placement Cell, by year, on the placements page, and nowhere else.
